How does your economic reality effect your art?
How does it not! Honestly the stress is the most problematic. It affects relationships, family, friendships, health and my ability to take care of others when they need it. As a child of immigrants, I feel the pressure is even greater. As a woman of color, it is 10x more intense. When everything is out of balance focusing takes a bit. How I get my work done now is amazing. I look froward to what I create once I'm debt free.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Yes. The money I pay towards debt could go towards sharing a space where I could put up my work on paper or do more performances on video where set changes are required more often. Although I do these things at home, there is more to juggle. My mental space, work and home, get blurred which leads to stress. It gets difficult to work under stress.
