How did you get into debt?
I had to go into debt in order to finish paying for graduate school.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
As an artist who is not very interested in the commercial gallery path, my process is dependent upon grants and external funding. I am often unable to execute projects fully because I do not have the means to do so.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
My process is slow and it involves extensive research and and travel. If I was not in debt and working two jobs, I would be able to immerse myself fully in my practice and complete projects in a more timely manner. I would also use the $250.00 per month I pay in student loan payments towards production or to travel costs relating to my work.
