How did you get into debt?
Part irresponsibility, part a waning job market for artists after leaving Graduate School in New York City; housing costs, etc.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
It strains it I think. Constricts it. An unnecessary burden on top of all of life's other burdens. There was no easy way to begin to pay back or else I, as a relatively responsible human, would most definitely have done so. I still take full blame for my irresponsibility and lack of fortitude in repaying what I borrowed, but I also find fault in the system that loaned it to me, and believe there should be more avenues for us artists to take when trying to right these situations. There are none.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Perhaps, many factors would apply such as more space to work if I were more financially sound; a better mental health outlook as well ;)
