How did you get into debt?
I came into debt as a result of attaining my MFA.

How does your economic reality effect your art?
My economic reality adversely affects my art, not only in the way that my art looks due to not being able to afford desired materials (see above), but also in that I have less time to dedicate to my art. Having a career as an educator is fulfilling in itself, and does allow me some stretches of vacation time to work on art, however many months go by throughout the year where I have to put aside partially completed work. I make much less work, and complete work much more slowly than I would like.

Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Yes. As my debt is approximately a third of my monthly disposable income, and in total more than a year's salary, I don't have the means to purchase the materials I often would like. I often have to settle for a lower quality of materials, or change the medium entirely based on affordability. I also have to work from my small home, which limits the size of the work I am able to make.
