How did you get into debt?
My wife and I were getting fed up with NYC. The idea of owning a home of our own (so we were not always fearing our rent going to 'market value') was becoming more and more of a fantasy. We left the city for upstate and bought a house with plenty of land and room to make art, music and my picture frame shop. Even though we bought a house, our mortgage is so much cheaper then rent in Queens and that's not even including the cost of a studio or workspace.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
I would make more art if I didn't have to work another job. But my job as a picture framer has me looking at art I may not other wise be seeing, so in a weird way having to work can be inspiring for me.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
I might not be making work if I weren't in debt, who knows. I started making drawings at a really dark period in my life and a lot of that dark period was about finances and what the future held for me.
