I sometimes borrow money, but I don't think of myself as being "in debt." I think of debt as a financial tool; you borrow money to enact some plan that will make more money. I have short-term credit card balances, and a project loan from Home Depot. I'm using the money to renovate a house, which I will rent out when it's finished. With today's low interest rates, I wish I could get more debt!
I'm a self-employed artist who is also a landlord.
I am careful to make my art projects fit my income. I've always favored low-budget works that I can produce myself, without help. My projects can be hard to sell, or ephemeral, or just negligible, and it doesn't matter!
