How did you get into debt?
My debt was and will be incurred while financing undergraduate and graduate school education, home mortgage, health care and car purchases for myself and my family.
Describe your art practice
Kate Tatsumi’s practice in interactive sculpture, video and installation questions and explores feminine stereotypes by utilizing feminist language and irony. By challenging the culturally normative sexualized female body, her work lies between essentialist and constructivist feminism. By using forms of breasts and vaginas, her work critiques the social constructs of gender and femininity.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
As is the case with many Artists I know, my art work would look different if I weren't in debt because I would be better able to fund qualitative execution of more ambitious, forward-thinking art projects.
